Joseph Whitney is an active freelance steel pan performer and percussionist from Newark, DE. He has toured several times to countries such as Sweden, Germany, and Israel. He has performed twice at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia with Delaware Steel and has also performed on the world percussion group Stomp’s DVD, Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2011, Joseph performed in the HalCats on the Zuiderdam, Zaandam, Ryndam, and Westerdam cruise ships for the cruise line Holland America Line. As a world percussionist, Joseph performs music in several genres including Calypso, Soca, Jazz, Reggae, Brazilian, R & B, Funk, and Afro Cuban.
Joseph has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Delaware, where he studied percussion and world percussion with Harvey Price and Orlando Cotto. He has performed with internationally renowned artists including America’s leading pan artist Andy Narell, Lion King percussionist and assistant conductor Rolando Morales-Matos, and Chris Hanning, the percussion instructor at West Chester University and virtuoso Caribbean drummer.
